Project Description:
The Santa Ana Police Administration Facility is composed of three separate structures connected in different ways including a long below grade tunnel connected to the courthouse. There is a large six floor Holding Facility on the south side of the site. Directly north of the Holding Facility is the Administration Facility and to the west of the Administration Building is a three level Parking Facility.
The six story Holding Facility consists of eight distinct cast-in-place mechanical shafts at the corner of the structure with two CIP elevator cores at the center of the structure. The Holding Facility slabs are predominately 10” thick at the main floors and 8” thick at the mezzanine levels. There are open recreational areas at two levels which were spanned by intersecting beams. The structure is heavily reinforced and required extensive effort to maintain the required steel clearances.
The Administration Facility is constructed out of structural steel with concrete on metal deck. The largest portion of cast-in-place work was preformed at the perimeter retaining wall that ran the length of the structure along the east elevation.
The Parking Structure consists of a large basement area with two levels of long span parking above. The parking area was connected to the Holding Facility by a tunnel.
