Project Description: On the Fresno Juvenile Justice Center project not only formwork was provided, but MCC was responsible for the concrete frame, including shotcrete installation.
The projects most unique aspect was the shotcrete walls and the large quantity of embedded items attached to both the formed face of walls and hung on the shot face of walls. In most cases it is common to see the perimeter and cell walls constructed using tilt-up panels, cast-in-place or CMU, but in this case shotcrete was utilized to facilitate both schedule and cost savings.
There were 9 main buildings which consisted of 18 separate building pods/structures.
The perimeter walls and cell walls were formed on one side and then shotcreted. It was important to secure the walls properly to resist the reverberation from the shotcrete application and maintain the necessary alignment tolerances on the wall as well as the tolerance of the numerous embeds and hollow metal door frames.
