Project Photos Details
Project Description:
The UC Irvine Natural Science Unit II Building consists of 5 levels of Lab Classrooms and Administrative Offices.

Typical floors are 14” thick mild-steel slabs with approximately 29,000 sf. per floor with a total footage of nearly 145,000 sf. Pre-fabricated Truss-joist deck tables were used in conjunction with aluminum shoring to create the falsework for the elevated slabs.

Colored architectural concrete walls are a prominent portion of the exterior of this project and there is a total of 175,000 sf. of architectural wall on the project. Many of these walls were formed using heavy ganged panels made up of aluminum strong-backs and LVL walers to facilitate the high finish requirements. The wall panels were large and required the use of a tower crane to facilitate the setting of the forms.

Swing-open columns designed by our in-house engineering were used to for the typical columns on the project.
